Summary for photo taking-by empirical/experiment method.
1) Shutter speed of more than 1/30s (ie. 1/60s) will help prevent shakes/out-of -focus image. However, try 1/30s with bracing. Rule is, shutter speed = 1/ lens focal length ie. if focal lenght, 200mm shutter speed =1/200s or more (say,1/500s). NB: I usually ignore the "(1/ )" so just say 200s or 500s
2) Always focus well, turn off auto exposure lock (EL) unless center weighted/spot metering mode is used. Focus and exposure are two separate things.
3) Pre-set your white balance or select a good one ie. cloudy white balance= warmer tone
4) Don't trust your LCD on-camera. However, use it to check for out-of-focus images.
5)Viewing a photo at 25% and at 34% are two separate things, bigger (>34%) reveals more out of focus images. FYI, in-camera LCD is about 16%. Now, tell me "How can you trust it?"
6) Cropping a sharp,in-focus image will not make it out-of-focus, no worries here. It only makes the file smaller. however, saving-to- web (to be uploaded), after the cropped, may wreck ur photo. I had to repost my cropped images.
7) When printing 4R, it is not 35% or 100% so what you see on screen may be different.
Finally, golden rule, always brace yourself for the shot.

Most shots are direct from camera with croppings. If the shots were digitally edited, i.e PS, it will be noted in the captions. My camera, D70s, 75-240 mm f4.5-5.6, exif files are not able to be provided on this website. Sorry mates.

Thank God its Friday

Waking up knowing its Friday is the same as being ready for a 100 m sprint. You know it'll be over too soon, yet its such a thrill to complete it. Anyway, it's a thrill to be here on a Friday

I am running out of photos to put up, yet due to the support I receive, thanks, guys and gals. I do visit your photopages once you leave a comment . If you have no photopages, please start one and share with all of us here.

Coroline
This is a visitor who has made my day. Whoever you are, next time, leave ur contact email. I am happy to see ur comments, always constructive and some encouragements really works for me. Taking pictures alone is rather boring. I am fortunate to have some kakis (fellow photographers) to share my passion. Caroline, again, leave you website URL.. I too want to see your photo-taking skills.

My usual kopitiam photo was posted here. This has been taken to try out my setting in-camera. Some photoshop work to desaturate, black and white and later dodge and burn to give it some feel. I removed by blurring the shops signboard because its not free advertisement. If you own any of the shops, pls contact me and I can remove the blur for a small fee.

Also, today went lepak with my photo kaki to discuss our next destination within the Klang Valley, any suggestion?

Thought that it would be good to drop another comment. Overall I applaud your effort. Some improvement, keep going. Love the B&W, like you -looks good.
Pic, coffee shop, its the only shot here that tells me a story when I admire it. Thanks for the blog on me. Appreciate it. I will drop by more often, Cheers mate.

Whew......goodie,

Caught in traffic gave me this.
A head turner, see how far it turns
David, if you crawl, this will be you.

Whew....today I was driving back from Batu Caves using the MRR2, what a masive traffic congestion I got into. So I called my friend to chat and kill time "Hello Samy?!.....pls, pls, tell me about the traffic jam. No point asking for our increament when there's really so many vehicles paying for fuel, time and even toll." I was getting late for my final appointment at GAB, thats Guiness Anchor Berhad (plant visit). So obviouly was aggitated.

Then I saw something remarkable, took some pics to let u guys/ladies view. Of course, season photographers will know that I had to shield the bright sun rays away from my Minolta compact . Was searching high and low for a filter..then...."Eureka....I might as well use my sun glass to tone down the sun rays".

OK...reached GAB, but somehow photos was not the priority . I got free flow of Tiger, Heineken, kilkenny, Malta, soft drinks, and shandy. So how can a guy gulp down so many drinks? He doesn't, He makes a choice, fill stomach with the most expensive drink.....got to be kilkenny...and had his fair share!

Oh boy, does ladies looks better after a few glasses. I would think so. Coz their eyes lits up, teary and reddish. Their cheeks shimmers with a glowing pink cast. If I was a camera, I would have to expose, full-filly flash them before shooting.

Got back really happy......this is what a few drinks does to me......tipsy, reddish all over, yea that's right ladies....all over, every part of my body. So ladies, alcohol makes me hot, so you'll have to blow harder to keep my body temperature down.

nice shots! keep it up

Chapter 2: Short photo stints.

Gold Planeterium
Silky water @ bulb mode
Tricky lights test matrix metering
View all 7 photos...
Our Nikon man was away snapping some photos at the Curve, Bandar Utama.
The one with shadow and half lit area did not fool my metering system, however, blown highlights were shown on my small LCD screen. I now do not fully rely on the LCD screen to tell me what my exposure is. I can still rely on histogram for accurate info. My LCD photos can only tell me if my hands shook while I captured the photo. Internet resources gave me some good custom tones. Obviously I had to stick to only one. But that's fine. Minor tweaks gave me sharper images. My metering technique still gives me problems. But practicing on it,

Planeterium
My preliminary shots is to attract interest among my photo kakis. Camera put on top of car and even though I could use a timer, I preferred to rely on my hands to release the trigger. Night pictures are shots braced onto some support, car rooftop, back seat, etc. I cannot posibbly take any just hand-held. Tried but failed. Surprisingly, there were other photographers like us, taking this planetarium late in the night. They gave us a little hint on best location to take.

Wow, lovely, some "over-exposed" leaves, should be cropped away. My fav. is the dome building. Wed 27-Sep-2006 03:57

My KL expedition

There was a time when fellow KL residents do not think much about their own city. This includes yours truly. All was changed when I needed photos for this wonderful blog.
I was truly amazed of what little KL has offered me in the past. Things have certainly changed when my photo kaki ie. David /Winnie went on KL photo exhibition (privately funded).
KL bird park.
This is the KL lesser known sanctuary. The birds are not as smelly as you would imagine. Indeed, this is no zoo. Free flying birds may scare you or you may scare the smaller birds into running seeking shelter. The pea-cocks (i.e David's-,just kidding ya) were rather proud to be "bird models". However, after the usual torential rain, they were indeed obliging for us, photo bugs to take random snapshots. So we took photos, after photos, till our battery went dead. Until we were escorrted out of the bird park for it was closed leaving us trapped inside!!!
My photos justify the rest of the bird park. Go see them.

DINNER@ Sg. Wang
David sponsor the dinner..whew.....lucky not me. Many thank again David. Food was great ! Dinner was fulfilly considering we were the last one out of the bird park. No chicken or any birds were on the menu, Took only mushroom...and noodles, and chinese tea.....and...
Kytk :How to say "sui kao" in english???
Winnie: follow me......Suuuuuiiiiiiii KaaaaaOOO.

KLCC
Night view, KLCC, see my pics. I found solace in the park. My Nikon battery outlasted Canon 400D by a mile. NIKON rocks.!!!!! I even had time to view my pics during coffee break @Starbucks, Suria KLCC. I sposored this one la. Poor me. Ohhh, if u are wondering, Winnie sponsored our ice-cream. I had to sponsor, again....supper chicken porriadge @ KL, unknown place. No pics coz too hungry and did not wanna rub it into Canon's wound. (David's "cannon" was not able to shoot anything by then.)

This KLCC photos were good, some reflected off the water.....this idea were copied by many tourists..originally from David. He gave us the best advice, amidst a little loud. Should had whispered. But even so, ....we had the best dslr cameras then. Mobile phone cameras were popular these days. But all it took were dark images. Hey, feat hard to duplicate considering there were so many lights lit up in the city.

Finish...i need to sleep. tata 3 am boys and gals.

wahahha...too much. what to do...had to take so many shots with ISO1600. so poorly lit. next time go earlier la. Mon 25-Sep-2006 01:23

Customary greeting to my readers. good day...good evening...good on you.....
Will remember to post pictures, this time, would be of candid shots. Spontenous and rediculous would be the theme.

Was hanging out, after work at Batu Caves yesterday. Took some pictures to be used here.
Also, for those who do not know , Batu Caves is getting really popular with foreigners due to the photos. Vibrant colours and lovely surrounding. Good to know that it is not dirty, with rubbish on the floor being frequently cleaned. Kudos.

Batu Caves had a flight of 100-130 (who's counting??) stairs that I was too lazy to climb up although this is my second visit. I hope to do some before stair climbing shot and after for my collection but no tourist were coming down as fast as they went up. Guess they were catching their breath.

"Hot tourist"-literally any way you take it is good for me. I love them and they love my lens.
I am gender bias when snapping hot tourist for obvious reasons. Else, I take subjects with expensive camera hardwares. Big lens, great cameras, but little ideas when snapping.

I will only write comments if it really is necessary. Else, let the photos do the talking. This Sat. I will see my friends and fellow photo kaki as I will most probably be alone.
Ok...I also will end my text abruptly and not as lovely as you read in books. Sorry but this has to be the way.

Happy birthday Amy.

Today's Amy's birthday. So happy birthday. Celebration went well @Chillis, MidValley.
The thing about birthday is, we hate getting old and whenever one's birthday approaches, we tend to reflect our personal goals in life......
a) Do I make enough money?
b) Do I look more "mature" now? if yes, How come? if no, you a liar!
c) Is it just me or is there less hair on my scalp & more in my ear?

Birthday are like chocolates, we love them but feel a little uncomfortable after having them.

Abrupt ending........................................
